Closed Captioning Services

Do you offer closed captioning services?

We offer both closed captioning and subtitling services. There are three types or styles used in captioning and subtitling.

Roll-up, scroll-up, or scrolling: The words appear from left to right, up to one line at a time; when a line is filled, the whole line scrolls up to make way for a new line, and the line on top is erased. The captions usually appear at the bottom of the screen but can be placed anywhere to avoid covering graphics or action. Pop-on, pop-up, or block: A caption appears anywhere on the screen, followed by another caption or no captions. This method is used for most pre-taped television and film programming. Paint-on: The caption, whether a single word or a line, appears on the screen letter-by-letter from left to right but ends up as a stationary block, like pop-on captions. This format is rarely used today.

Linear Time Code

What is Linear Time Code (LTC)?

Linear time code is an encoding of time code as an audio signal. The post-production Industry now has a tool that produces digital files with embedded time codes. Sound Devices 552 Production Mixer produces real-time WAV, BWF & MP3s with Linear Time Code (LTC) recorded to the audio channel. Using sophisticated software Daily Transcription can decipher the analog time code track in the file giving the transcriber a way to read frame-accurate time codes. This feature caters to the time-sensitive demands of transcribing reality TV shows, news, commercials, and documentaries. The actual savings come from the post-production facility. The standard turnaround time from shooting to sending files to a transcription house is about four hours for every hour of footage recorded. Using the 552 Production Mixer allows almost on-the-fly transcription to begin while shooting. Sound Mixers can send MP3 audio to Daily Transcription from the shoot without returning to the Post Production facility, digitizing, creating string-outs, and converting into compressed proxy files. If you’d like more information on this process, please contact us.

Payment

Why do you authorize my credit card before my order is even processed?

Authorization is only a hold on funds. If you use a debit card for authorization, the funds will come out of your account for 3-5 days. After 30 days or once your payment is made, the hold is released.

How do I pay for my order?

With your first order, you must fill out a New Client Form. That form contains a section to fill in your credit card information. Upon completing your job, your credit card will be charged unless otherwise noted.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Our preferred method of payment is by credit card. We will accept a check if you do not have a credit card. For us to accept a check, you must first fill out a company credit application. This application will then be subject to review and approval by the Accounting Department. Please contact your account representative for more information.

Is there a minimum charge?

For work completed during the week, there is a minimum payment of $50. For work completed during the weekend, there is a minimum payment of $100.
